Capability Plots & ERN Calculations

DP Capability Plots analysis defines the ability to maintain position and maneuver behavior by a vessel that is affected by natural forces such as wind, sea current, and waves. The analysis is done for wind direction, sea currents and waves in the range of 0 to 360 degrees with a change of wind speed from 0 to 50 m / s (100 knots).

Capability Plots

ERN is the number entered by DNV, which determines the ability of a ship to maintain its position when it interacts with the combined forces of the wind, the sea current, and the waves at the most sensitive point (typically at 90 degrees). .

ERN consists of four digits:
  1. The first number represents the ability of the ship to maintain its position on all propulsion systems.
  2. The second number represents the ability of the ship to maintain its position when the most important thruster will fail.
  3. The third number represents the ability of the ship to maintain its position when the least important thruster stops working.
  4. The fourth number represents the ability of the ship to hold the position for the "worst case".

The best possible number is 4x99 (99.99.99.99). We offer you the above analyzes, taking into accound your own scenarios.
